Just to anticipate one question: In most countries, a concrete publication date has not yet been set. But starting now, the clock is ticking.

CENELEC, as a European standardization organization, had the national standardization organizations in Europe vote on the adoption of IEC/IEEE 82079-1 into the European framework of standards.

The adoption of the IEC/IEEE 82079-1 standard received 100% approval and no comments were submitted. Thus, there is nothing to prevent the international standard from being incorporated into the European standards framework without any amendments necessary.

The availability date for EN 82079-1 has been set by CENELEC for April 3, 2020. This means that the actual publication date of EN IEC/IEEE 82079-1 will be very soon. The national standardization organizations must adopt and publish the standard on the national level within 6 months of this date by publishing an identical national standard or by endorsement.

What Does This Mean in Practice?

The standard can be applied in the European member states without any deviations from the international standard. The national language versions of EN IEC/IEEE 82079-1 will therefore not bring any surprises. So, if you are already compliant with IEC/IEEE 82079-1, or if you are in the process of implementing it, you are on the right track.
